The Sword of Destiny, The Witcher Series, book 2, by Andrej Sapkowski

The Sword of Destiny by Andrej Sapkowski is the second book in The Witcher Series. Like The Last Wish, it's a collection of short stories about Geralt of Rivia.

This book contains six short stories in it and like The Last Wish isn’t necessarily in a clear chronological order, but each story helps build the world, and the characters that inhabit it. As in the first book, the reader follows Geralt of Rivia, The White Wolf, a Witcher or monster hunter by trade, as he journeys around looking for work, and the adventures that seem to always find him, good or bad.

As the reader continues to join Geralt on his journey, Sapkowski continues to do a good job connecting these tales in a way that works seamlessly like its one tale, not many. These tales are always an interesting read, new monsters, new characters, and new insights into Geralt’s life. Definitely one of the best fantasy books I’ve read.

In the first tale, Bounds of Reason: Geralt discovers that just because something is said to be myth, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

In A Shard of Ice: Three’s a crowd. Yennifer must choose what to do about the two men in her life, the one she is spellbound to, or the other an old sorcerer friend.

In Eternal Flame: If it quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck, is it a duck? Geralt and Dandelion discover that sometimes a duck, isn’t a duck, or who they seem to be.

In A Little Sacrifice: What does a mermaid, a Witcher, two minstrels, and one human have in common? All have issues in love, and in the end, several discover that love really does need a little sacrifice, and the sea holds one big secret.

In A Sword of Destiny: A runaway Princess from Geralt’s past unexpectedly ends up back in his life. But will Geralt accept his Destiny?

In the final tale, Something More: Geralt is gravely injured and while he sleeps, a couple of visits to his past occur. While he heals, one unexpected encounter he never thought would happen does, and by the end of his journey, Destiny once again presents itself, and this time, Geralt accepts his fate.
